A History of Garland

Garland was first founded around 1850, though the community wouldn’t be officially established until 1874. The post office came to the area in 1891, and the first power plant came to the city in 1920. After World War II ended the city became a major suburban town and the population had quadrupled by 1960. After the railroad came to the area the city began to grow rapidly, though the transportation industry in the city has been surpassed by health care, education and finance.
