A History of Greensboro
The city was first planned around 1808 – it was actually planned around a central square that would make the city the new county seat of Guilford County. Moving the county seat to Greensboro actually moved the county seat closer to the geographical center of the county, which was believed to be more accessible to the people of the county. The city grew rapidly and by the turn of the 20th century was a state leader in textile manufacturing; today, however, the city is at the forefront of technological research. It is still a major transportation hub and is emerging as a major business relocation center.
Transportation of Greensboro
Greensboro has long been a major transportation hub of North Carolina and Guilford County and is still a huge transportation center. The city evolved from a small government center into a huge transportation district consisting of rail centers, airports, mass transit centers, pedestrian walkways and bicycle paths. Today the economy of the city has become much more diverse than the textile and transportation sectors, though they still play a major role in the city’s economy and growth.
