A History of Las Vegas
Las Vegas was founded in 1905, though it didn’t officially become a city until 1911, and with the massive growth that followed it became the most populous city founded in the 20th century. The city was originally a small stop-over for pioneers traveling across the Sierra Mountains and into California. Las Vegas was one of the few cities that the railroads didn’t help to prosper, though the construction of the Hoover Dam in 1935 resulted in new residents and more tourists coming to the city. Today the city is one of the top entertainment destinations in the United States, with many forms of entertainment to choose from in the city.
Transportation in Las Vegas
Las Vegas is one of the few cities that didn’t benefit from the railroads coming to the city, but they weren’t necessarily needed when they came. Hoover Dam had already been built and the city was prospering, with many of the first casinos in the city being built around that time – many are still standing today, albeit far removed from their original form. The national highway system certainly helped the city to grow, however, allowing more tourists and residents to come to the city to spend their money at the many casinos.
Tourism in Las Vegas
Las Vegas is truly the city that never sleeps, as the nightlife of the city is renowned for being the best in the United States. If you’re visiting Las Vegas, take a day to just walk along the Strip – you’ll find dozens of high-rise casino hotels that you can peruse and gamble in, from the Paris down to Mandalay Bay or even Treasure Island. If you’re visiting Treasure Island make sure to stop and see the boat show, as it’s a spectacle that you won’t soon forget – it runs almost nightly. There are plenty of places to visit in Las Vegas, so make sure you get out and see everything there is to see – you won’t be disappointed.
Taxi Services in Las Vegas
Taxis run all up and down the Strip, and it’s much like New York in that you can simply stick your hand out and get a ride. But if you’re looking to get from A to B, you can call the Lucky Cab Company or Desert Cab on Demand – they’ll pick you up and get you where you need to go at virtually any time, day or night.
